9Plastic bags are everywhere and Everyday, we are handed countless plastic bags.Yes, sometimes, plastic bags are convenient, as they are water resistant and light and inexpensive compared to paper bags.
But Here are some questions we should ask ourselves whenever we are handed a plastic bag: -
- Do I need to take as many plastic bags in supermarkets?
- Do I need a plastic bag for an item purchased that is already well packaged by the manufacturer?
- Could I bring my own shopping bag when making purchases?

Plastic bags are the cause of major environmental concerns. Most of them go straight to our landfill and
a very small percentage of plastic bags are actually recycled.
Here are the reasons why you should limit your consumption of plastic bags:-
Because of their light weight, plastic bags fly easily in wind, float along readily in the currents of rivers and oceans, get tangled up in trees, fences, poles, and so forth, and block t
he drainage.
Plastic bags are made from a non-renewable natural resource-petroleum. The manufacturing of plastic bags contributes to the diminishing availability of our natural resources and the damage to the environment from the extraction of petroleum. Most plastic bags are made of polyethylene – more commonly known as polythene – they are hazardous to manufacture and are said to take up to 1,000 years to decompose on land and 450 years in water.
Countless plastic bags end up in our ocean and cause harm to our marine wildlife, who mistakenly ingest plastic and choke in plastic bags that is floating around. It is estimated 100,000 marine mammals die each year because of plastic litter in our ocean in the North Pacific. Land animals also to be victims as well. In countries such as India , cows mistakenly ingesting plastic bags on the streets as they are scavenging for food and end up choking or starving to death, as plastic cannot be digested.
There is virtually no market for recycling plastic bags.your local supermarkets collect used plastic bags for recycle, very few are actually recycled.Whereas, most paper bags are made from recycled paper
During the last few years, status of environment instead of improving has gone from bad to worse. Without elaborating upon what went wrong? How and Why” I would like to invite the attention of the common public to pollution in River Tawi. Jammu city may be the only city in the whole of India which is associated with the name of river Tawi. Raja Jumbo-lochan laid the foundation of this city after having witnessed drinking of water by a Panther and a goat from the same Tawi River. Thus people of Jammu have got cultural, religions and social connections, attachment with this river, but their indifferent insensitive behaviour and life style has resulted in severe pollution and even survival of this river is in great jeopardy.
The river is being polluted by throwing of garbage, discharge of sewage, chemical effluents, open defication, silt from degraded catchment, washing of vehicles etc. It has an adverse effect on fish, animals and wild animals and habitations using this water for drinking, agricultural or any other use.
The hard facts like population explosion, mismanagement in the disposal of sewerage water of the old city and lack of awareness among the people have contributed a lot for spoiling clean and fresh Tawi water. The ‘deliberate ignorance’ on part of certain agencies and the attitude of escapism has further aggravated the problem.
It is unfortuna
te that despite J&K High Court directions and several notices by the State Pollution Control Board, Jammu Municipal authorities and the UEED have failed to take necessary measures and stop direct flowing of old city drain waters and garbage to river Tawi. A little effort by the Municipal authorities two years back, by launching a micro ‘ Clean Tawi project’ could not yield any fruitful results. The PCB authorities had reportedly served atleast 3-4 notices to these two main civic agencies regarding proper management of sewerage water which is highly polluting the Tawi river water, serving as the lifeline for the people here.
In Bangladesh , plastic bags have been banned completely since early 2002 as they were found to have been the main cause of floods during the 1988 and 1998 that submerged two-thirds of the country. In 2001, Mumbai council also eliminated the use of plastic bags to prevent them from littering the streets and clogging up the city’s sewerage system. As a result, merchants have switched to recycled paper bags and litter in the city has been reduced considerably. As consumers, we should not wait for our governments to tackle the problem of plastic bags. Change ultimately comes from everyone WAKE UP ! THERE MAY STILL BE TIME
If every human alive today consumed natural resources and emitted carbon dioxide at the same rate as the average person in the developed world, then we would need at least another two Planet Earths, if not three – WWF
Please Take A Pledge & Save Our Precious World,Make It Beautiful to Live In…

Be the change you wish to See in others. So First You on your own, Stop using plastic bags and then suggest others because Good work starts from your own home.
Does Indian Society Appreciate Honest People?
0We Indians are A -Grade hypocrites.Does our system honour and respect an honest man ? Is there any place for a man in league with values in our society ? Give me an honest answer !! We are living in times when giving and accepting bribe is a normal phenomenon.Against this backdrop, what’s the survival chances of an officer who does not accept bribes?
Today the worth of any government official or any individual is measured in terms of money he/she has earned during cream postings. Any official who is incapable of doing so is not only marginalized but also hailed as “लंठ” (moron). He is ridiculed by the peers and accused of being over smart.Sometimes back I saw the movie “Shool”.Have a look at this movie to acknowledge the worth of honest official in our society. You may find my remarks bit appalling but the sad reality is that we appreciate people in league with wrong values.
No wonder why parents give their daughters only to sarkari babu(government employee).Reason? Because that ensures extra flow of cash (ऊपर की कमाई).When the parents search for a suitable groom for their daughter ,they ensure that prospective is employed in a government institution. You are in government job.Okay. However, what impresses the family of bride is the “ऊपर की कमाई”(extra income earned through wrong means)and not the post on which the groom is working. Now that’s the drama taking place in Indian society.Imagine the plight of person who is not a government official and also honest !!
I must say our system does not encourage good individuals. Here people are both eager to give and accept bribes. No body feels anything bad about it.It’s so normal in our times. That’s why when officials meet they often discuss prices of land ,prices of latest model of cars, prices of latest gadgets. Do you think this discussion would have been possible had they been living life without wrong sources of income? ‘Foul is fair’ in our days.
People now give and take without an iota of guilt.Anyone who cannot do that feels guilty for being too dull headed to learn the tricks of give and take business.Yes,it’s an age where people like SRK are being paid not less than five crore for a ten minute ‘naach gaana’(singing and dancing) act in a party of business tycoon. What I am trying to say that when money has gained so much importance in our times, the people are ready to any extent to fulfill their suppressed desires. The programmes like “Sach Ka Saamna” are based on this principle that money has the power to make people do anything both in private and public !!
I always believe that honesty pays rich dividends but when I look from the eyes of common man’s eyes or from the eyes of people trapped in harsh realities of world honesty has never paid rich dividends. It means no better school for children, it means visiting Sarkaari(government) hospital and it means living a life devoid of class.I realize that a life based on values is always rewarding whether one gets credit for it or not but then our world is comprised of lesser mortals .We cannot anticipate their problems from higher plane of thought !!!! A friend of mine provided me the link which said how an IAS couple made millions via corrupt practices. We have Chief Ministers who are involved scams of all sorts.Look at Mr Madhu Koda who is “charged with laundering money worth over Rs. 4000 crores” !!Now look at the data that brings in open the state of affairs in India.
- Average Life Satisfaction Ranking — 68th/104
- Per Capita GDP Ranking — 83rd/104
- WEF Global Competitiveness Index — 49th/133
- UN Human Development Index — 132nd/179
- Heritage/WSJ Economic Freedom Index — 123rd/178
- TI Corruption Perceptions Index — 85th/180
- Vision of Humanity Global Peace Index — 122nd/144
- India ranks at 45 in the Prosperity Index.
I sometimes feel corruption should be provided some legality.Look at the prices of essential commodities. Imagine the plight of parents whose wards are studying in B-Grade schools. I am not taking about elite or higher middle class.I am talking about lower middle class and poorer section of society. There are only two reasons why lower middle class gives and takes bribes. One is that we want to become hi-fi as early as possible and second one is that we are always chased by insecurities. We think if we don’t accept bribes we may not be able to survive in this age when almost everything comes at a price. We cannot ignore this logic.
The sad reality is that whole system designed in India is not aimed at providing ease to aam aadmi(common man). It’s built to exploit common man as often as possible. I don’t wish to quote incidents the examples but I have enough reasons to prove that hollow idealism is not going to solve the problem. Just overheard yesterday that a big official paid 15 lakhs for a cream posting. Move inside the corridors of UP secretariat and you will know the definition of give and take.
People are ready to pay and the modern definition of honesty is that a officer is a good one if he does your work after accepting the bribe. My friends who are preparing for civil services apart from many other dreams have hopes of earning quick money in quick time.I know many others who have just entered into the services. They tell me :” Arvind, the situation is horrible.Sabka commission fix hai..kya kare (every officer needs his/her share in the booty)”.
Worse, the people who have paid money to get the services their first aim is to get back the money they have given to get the service. How will they cover up if they don’t accept bribes.? And the one’s that have not yet been selected dream of making huge money once they get selected. It ensures beautiful wife from a big family. We are living in times where even the 10th failed when gets married hopes of getting “phatphatiya”(bike)
).So what’s wrong if officers in making hope of getting huge dowry
)
I don’t think likes of Madhu Koda amassed huge wealth via acts of Charity? Bribe culture exists because nobody is ashamed to be part of this circle. Please don’t label me as pessimist when I talk about legalizing bribe culture but only wish to say that when it’s so common what’s the need to make fuss about it ?
However,I realize that a life based on values always produces good result in a sense that it leads to expansion of one’s own self.In fact,I too have great faith in system and in cherished values.Though I am surrounded by negativities I am still mired in optimism.I am not going to lose hopes in better values. However,do the common man who does not have access to evolved thoughts can feel happiness in being honest ?

Jammu-The Land of Cheap Leaders
0Jammu which is known as the city of temples, should know change this name and be called as THE LAND OF CHEAP LEADERS or rather I should say THE LAND OF CHEAP POLITICS.As per abraham lincoln,Public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment nothing can fail; without it nothing can succeed. He who molds public sentiment goes deeper than he who enacts statutes or decisions possible or impossible to execute. But here in Jammu, leaders do their best to exploit this sentiment, just for their own benefit.
A should have some qualities like Future Focussed,Level Headed, self aware, unselfish, caring, broad minded, make practical decisions, clear vision, confident, optimistic, ready to give sacrifice for his/her followers.Does any Jammu leaders have single such quality?I hadnt found any such quality in any leader so far.
After Amarnath’s Land Row Agitation in 2008,we can find hundreds of Leaders in every nook and corner of the Jammu Province. Are these leaders worth for anything? They are here just for politics and that too not for the welfare of Jammuities but for the well being of themselves. As per Abraham Lincoln, Politics is like You may fool all the people some of the time, you can even fool some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time. Now lets talk about the student leaders in Jammu, who claim themselves as the student’s voice. But these so called Student leaders are here just for politics and even the worst thing thing is that they are supported by the political leaders.
As per American Priest,Theodre
The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can’t blow an uncertain trumpet. And these student leaders don’t have any vision and loves to blow their own trumpet.they know only two things i.e., burning of effigies of VC of Jammu University and boycotting the Classes.Even forcibly asks other students to boycott their class even if they are not interested in their cheap Politics.
As the Final exam’s time is approaching, all these students have once again started coming out of their dens and started demanding of Open choice. These so called leaders are saying that ‘open choice’ is their ‘’genuine demand’’ and it should be accepted by the authorities.Every year during the exams time, this shit happens.I was so sure about this too, even I clearly mentioned that in the Central University Issue article. Why cant they stop playing such foul game every year and why we follow them?
At present, this demand was only raised by JJSF(JAMMU JOINT STUDENT FEDERATION) some weeks ago.
And these leaders are giving excuses that due to the late declaration of results by the university the academic session was
not started in time and only 50% of their syllabus is completed.Alongwith that they didn’t forget to add one more excuse i.e.,their studies also suffered for over two months due to the agitation over the Central university issue. So their demand is very genuine and it has to be accepted.
Let me now share my experiences with Pune University,When I enrolled for Pune university,There use to be a boycott of classes due to some fee issues for few weeks.
but no one demand of open choice there because the student leaders there don’t play cheap politics as we are seing here in Jammu. As everyone must be knowing how vast engineering
syllabus as compared to others and few weeks of boycott matters a lot and semester lasts for 4-5 months only. And one more incident, who can forget that Swine flu scare in Pune last year and whole Pune was completely shut down for 1 month completely but still no one demanded of open choice or reduction in syllabus, not even a single voice comes out.And one more thing,I don’t know in any of our semester our whole syllabus is completed but still no one asks of reduction in syllabus or like anything. But here in Jammu, everyone finds some excuses to have reduction in syllabus/open choice.
I know most of Students don’t support these leaders but why don’t they come forward and send some anonymous letters to VC that we don’t want open choice or like that.I know its difficult to come forward as these leaders enjoying the support of Big Guns Of Jammu, but there are many ways to put your voice which I mentioned before but we don’t have to forget that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE IN THIS WORLD.If you want good future then you have to come forward and have to show these leaders a mirror.
We always say that Jammu University lacks infrastructure, exposure etc.Jammu University is having everything but the problem is that we Jammuities lacks everything.STOP SUPPORTING THESE CHEAP LEADERS.
But do remember one thing that Its your future which these leaders just for their own benefits had put on stake.think twice before joining them.Dont follow these shortcuts to get good marks.Marks is not everything in life, knowledge is everything.
Statistics show that lots of students suffer from anxiety due to the examination pressuresbut that doesnt matter you start following these shortcuts to get good marks. The more chronic ones may even turn suicidal. You must be knowing about Bill Gates who was among the lowest in his class in school. Now, he is the proud owner of Microsoft and creates a major impact to the world. As I said before, marks aren’t everything! It is not about failing but it is about falling and getting up again. It signifies a new beginning. The examinations not only test your IQ but also your attitude. But this open choice doesnt test anything.
Create memories that you can smile about in the future as you go through your album. And you shouldnt have to regret about anything. When you get matured and look back, maybe then, you fully understand that marks are seriously not everything.
Rest is yours Choice,Its your life and you know whats right or wrong.
Anyways all the best for your upcoming exams:)
Bye
